The romantic village of Assmanshausen, famous for its red wines, its narrow streets and picturesque half-timbered houses is today part of the town of Rudesheim. On this week-end each year they celebrate their 'red wine paradise' with a wonderful festival of food and wine with a firework display over the River Rhine itself. Fabulous, fun week-end.

Itinerary:

Friday: Early departure for Dover, ferry to Calais and continue to Assmanshausen arriving mid-evening.

Sat/Sun: Two days to enjoy the festivities and fun of the Rhine. You can enjoy the festival atmosphere of 'Assmanshausen in Red' with the narrow streets full of wine, food, music and fun. We also go into the bustling resort of Rudesheim and the 'Happiest Street in the World' full of wine taverns and music, as well as make a visit to the Asbach Distillery for a brandy tasting and finally, take a cruise along one of the most scenic stretches of the River Rhine with dramatic riverside scenery including the Lorelei Rock.

Monday: Return to Calais for a tea-time ferry and home mid evening.

Hotel Alte Bauernschanke, Assmanshausen

This friendly family run hotel extends a warm Rhineland welcome to all its guests. Situated in the heart of Assmanshausen, the hotel is located only a short stroll from the Rhine Promenade and the chair lift which takes you to the summit of the Niederwald. The Alte Bauernschanke, a wonderful half-timbered building, was originally a tavern dating back to the 15th century and has become a landmark in the town. All bedrooms are en-suite with TV and telephone.
